Just Say Yes to Fruits and Vegetables

Just Say Yes (JSY) is one of New York State’s premier nutrition education programs for low-income families. On Long Island, the JSY program is a service of Long Island Cares, Inc. – The Harry Chapin Food Bank. This unique educational service is designed to prevent obesity and reduce long-term chronic disease risks through the promotion of increased fruit and vegetable consumption. Using nutrition education workshops, materials and specialized food demonstrations, JSY works to ensure that low-income families on Long Island:

  • Eat more nutritious foods.

  • Make the most of their food budget.

  • Prepare food in a safe manner.

JSY staff regularly visit the Sag Harbor Food Pantry and provide custom-tailored nutrition education and cooking demonstrations, such as:

  • Tips for Eating More Fruits and Vegetables

  • Cooking with Beans

  • Stretching Your Food Dollars

  • Planning Quick and Healthy Meals

  • Making Healthy Food Choices

  • How to Keep Food Safe

  • How to Eat More Fiber

  • Healthy Portion Sizes

  • Using the Nutrition Facts Labels
