Start the new year with a chance to do some good by braving the cold Atlantic for the 26th annual Wainscott Polar Bear Plunge, sponsored by the Seafood Shop’s Colin Mather, with all proceeds going to the Sag Harbor Community Food Pantry. This is the only fundraising event held each year for the Sag Harbor Food Pantry, which serves more than 100 families a week and over 500 family members, all of whom reside in Sag Harbor.
Participants should arrive by 2 p.m. to get ready for the 2:30 p.m. plunge at Beach Lane in Wainscott.
All registered participants will receive a Wainscott Polar Bear Plunge winter beanie. The Seafood Shop will be offering hot soup to all participants afterward.
The Wainscott Polar Bear Plunge was started by Colin Mather from the Seafood Shop in 1999 when he informally invite friends to join him for a cold dip on the first day of the year and has grown to a vital fundraiser for the pantry.
The registration fee is $25. Register in advance at sagharborfoodpantry.org.
All participants must sign a waiver.
