About Us
Our History
The Sag Harbor Community Food Pantry started in 1987 as a small food closet run by the Old Whalers' Church, offering canned and dry goods. Over the years the need grew, and so did the Pantry—its space and its offerings—providing weekly supplies of fruits, vegetables, fish, chicken, and meat. In 2006, independent of the church, the Pantry was incorporated as a 501(c)(3), and under the leadership of longtime volunteer Evie Ramunno, the Pantry has expanded its volunteer base and food donations. The Pantry continues to be run entirely by volunteers.
Our Services
Every Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. until noon, the Sag Harbor Community Pantry opens its doors to neighbors in need. Our volunteers assist each recipient in selecting nutritious food: fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy products, eggs, bread, and small portions of chicken, meat, or fish.
Additionally, the Pantry provides staples such as flour, sugar, rice, pasta, beans, a variety of dried and canned goods and juices, personal hygiene products, pet food, cleaning supplies, and seasonal items, such as back-to-school supplies, pies for Thanksgiving, and toys for children during the holidays.
Where We Get Our Food
Donations!
Our food is purchased with donations from you, our neighbors.
A small portion of our food comes from food banks, Island Harvest, and Long Island Cares.
We also receive fresh produce and more from our local farms and partners.
And lastly, we accept dry goods at our donation drop boxes.
Our Impact
Many on Long Island’s East End struggle, as unforeseen events, such as a medical emergency, an accident, a long-term disability, or an unexpected job loss, can quickly lead to financial hardship. Seniors, individuals, and families who serve our community often face difficult choices: buying food or paying rent, purchasing heating fuel or filling a prescription, and many delay essential medical or dental care.
Impact
We serve approximately 100 families with roughly 400 total family members per week.
Food Expenses
A monthly donation of $275 feeds a family of four for a year.
We spend roughly $3,700 per week on dry and canned goods, produce, dairy, eggs, and meat. In the summer we benefit from the generous donations from our local farms.
Volunteer Strength
Our organization is nearly 40 years old and we are 100% volunteer-led and run.
It takes an average of 50+ volunteers per week to keep our Pantry running.
How You Can Help
Your support, whether through a donation or by helping to stock our shelves, will make a difference in the lives of many who need it. Together, as "neighbors helping neighbors", we can make a difference. Please donate.
